Thank you for the opportunity to introduce our organisation to you!
Siyabonga – Helping Hands for Africa is a registered Non-Profit Public Benefit Organisation based in Pietermaritzburg. All funding for the purchase of assets, the support of our beneficiaries and the running of our project is secured by our parent organisation in Germany. Ongoing local sponsorships also contribute to the running of the project.
Our mission is to create a better future for orphaned and vulnerable children through education and care. Our funding model is based on a one-on-one sponsorship for individual donors supporting a child for the duration of the child’s school going years.
Siyabonga Helping Hands for Africa owns two educational centres in Pietermaritzburg. The first centre in Esigodini was opened in 2009 and the second in Imbali at the end of 2013. We work hand in hand with the local school and local community. The schools identify and connect us with the most impoverished children being enrolled. Every year we take on 25 Grade 1 Learners per centre, we therefore support approximately 300 learners (Primary and High School) per Centre. In addition we support about 80 pre-schoolers in an outreach programme.
In 2017 we started a “Gap Year” Programme for our school-leavers who have not found employment or a place to study. This is a wonderful, uplifting experience for the youngsters.
Through our sponsorship we also buy school uniforms and pay the school fees annually. The children come to our centres after school where they have a hot, nutritious lunch prepared by professional caterer, Fedics KZN, and then participate in our educational programme. We encourage sport, soccer for the boys and netball for the girls and we have qualified social workers to support the children and their families with any challenges they may face.
We currently have a staff compliment of almost 40 people, many of whom are from the immediate neighbourhood. We pride ourselves in being able to offer employment opportunities to the local community.
Please feel free to contact me directly should you have any further queries.
Yours faithfully
